Linda Thomas, OART Reading tutor

Patient, encouraging and personal.

Lessons are calm, positive and paced to the individual learner. The aim is not simply to finish an exercise. It is to help a child understand, practise and leave feeling proud of what they can do.

โœ“ Focused one-to-one attentionโœ“ Lessons adapted to pace and confidenceโœ“ Clear communication with parents

Why families choose private help

Some children need more repetition, more encouragement, or more time than a busy classroom can provide. Private support creates space to strengthen the exact skills causing difficulty without embarrassment or pressure.

How Linda teaches

Little steps. Strong foundations. Growing confidence.

Linda shared her actual phonics teaching sequence: letters and sounds first, then sound blending, high-frequency words and plenty of meaningful practice. She works through the skills until a child is ready for the next step.

01

Meet letters and sounds

Recognise capital and lowercase letters, say their sounds and practise matching them.

02

Blend sounds into words

Join sounds without stopping between them. For example, /c/ /a/ /t/ becomes cat.

03

Read useful words

Practise familiar sight words and use them in short, original sentences for beginning readers.

04

Repeat, build and progress

Revisit skills, improve accuracy and fluency, and move onward when foundations are secure.

Linda says she uses Hooked on Phonics Levels 1โ€“5. OART Reading is an independent tutoring service, not affiliated with or endorsed by that programme.

What children can work on

Reading skills made clear, colorful and manageable.

๐Ÿงฉ

๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Reading Fluency

๐ŸŒˆ

Simple for families

How private lessons can work.

1

Parent enquiry

Tell us a little about your child's age, school stage and current reading needs.

2

Starting point

The teacher identifies the skills that will make the biggest difference first.

3

One-to-one lessons

Focused teaching, guided reading, practice activities and plenty of encouragement.

4

Visible progress

Parents receive clear feedback and useful ideas for supporting reading at home.

For parents

You do not have to guess what your child needs next.

If homework becomes stressful, reading aloud causes frustration, or your child needs more practice than school can provide, private support can create a calmer path forward.
